Ex-nursing home worker sentenced in sexual assault

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - A former employee at an assisted-living center has been sentenced to 20 years of probation for sexually assaulting a 74-year-old woman afflicted with Alzheimer's disease.

Lyle Reid French, 55, of Louisville, was also sentenced Monday to 30 days of jail work-release. He earlier pleaded guilty to felony sexual assault charges, including sex assault on an at-risk adult.

The victim's daughter asked for the harshest punishment possible. The defense lawyer, though, noted that French previously had no criminal record and voluntarily entered therapy.

District Judge Morris Sandstead said he couldn't impose the penalty of lifetime probation because sexual assault on an at-risk adult isn't among the crimes carrying that penalty.

French was in line to become supervisor at Alterra Wynwood at Ridge Point in Boulder earlier this year when he was accused of sexually assaulting the woman, who was in his care. Co-workers told police French was behaving suspiciously in the woman's room in February.

French admitted assaulting the woman while he was in bed with her, authorities said. A forensic nurse said the woman had bruises afterward. French was fired.
