Patient expected to be charged with murder (7/17/02 Detroit Free Press) By Cecil Angel A psychiatric patient who allegedly struck two other nursing home patients who later died is expected to be charged with murder today in 36th District Court in Detroit. Ronald Alexander, 57, had been charged with assault and has been held in the Wayne County Jail since April. Wayne County Sheriff's Deputy Chief Ralph Kinney said the medical examiner recently ruled the deaths a homicide. McKinley Darget, 93, died March 28, nearly two weeks after he allegedly was beaten. Alfonzo Wallace, 68, died April 8 after allegedly being hit April 7. All three men lived at the Cadillac Nursing Home in Detroit. Alexander was on psychotropic medications and under a psychiatrist's care. He had been homeless for 25 years before being hit by a car late last year and sent to Riverside Hospital, then to the nursing home. Kinney said the Sheriff's Department will pursue charges against the nursing home, possibly negligent homicide or with a violation of the state's Vulnerable Abuse Act. |
