Ronald Alexander, 57, had been charged with assault and has been held in the Wayne County Jail since April. Wayne County Sheriff's Deputy Chief Ralph Kinney said the medical examiner recently ruled the deaths a homicide.

McKinley Darget, 93, died March 28, nearly two weeks after he allegedly was beaten. Alfonzo Wallace, 68, died April 8 after allegedly being hit April 7. All three men lived at the Cadillac Nursing Home in Detroit.

Alexander was on psychotropic medications and under a psychiatrist's care. He had been homeless for 25 years before being hit by a car late last year and sent to Riverside Hospital, then to the nursing home.

Kinney said the Sheriff's Department will pursue charges against the nursing home, possibly negligent homicide or with a violation of the state's Vulnerable Abuse Act.
