Lawyers launch ad campaign (2/20/02 Capitol News Service, FL) By Victoria Langley The Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers launched an advertising campaign today to draw attention to the problem of medical mistakes. The commercial shows Bruce Ridge of Port St. Lucie talking about his wife, who died after doctors did not detect a blockage in her intestine. The trial lawyers say the ad cost about 25-thousand dollars to produce. They plan to buy commercial time at television stations throughout the state if doctors continue calling for tort reform, which would put caps on the amount of money you could be awarded in a medical malpractice claim. Doctors say the lawyers just want to win as much money as possible so they can pad their own pocketbooks |
