Barbara Hengstebeck is currently the Executive Director of the Coalition
to Protect America's Elders, involved with an ongoing public
awareness campaign to protect the nation's nursing home population.
Ms. Hengstebeck was recently recognized for her effective
advocacy at the national level through her election as president
to the oldest and largest nursing home advocacy group in the
country, the
National Citizens' Coalition for Nursing Home Reform.
Ms. Hengstebeck's professional career has been devoted to
elder advocacy. Prior to the Coalition, Ms. Hengstebeck worked
as a Medical Health Car Program Analyst for Florida's Agency
for Healthcare Administration. For six years prior, Ms. Hengstebeck
served as Florida's ombudsman and was responsible for managing
the total operation of the statewide advocacy program.
In addition to her advocacy on behalf of nursing home residents,
Ms. Hengstebeck enjoys being a member of the Tallahassee Artists
League and working on her blown glass sculptures.
